Plant Performance & Test Specialist
Position Description
The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB's generation business and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients through ESB International.
The Plant Performance and Test Specialist will act in a specialist role within the Plant Performance and Test team within Generation Engineering. The main focus of this team member is to carry out emissions testing and assist with emissions compliance reporting on various generating plant as required by station environmental licences. This person also supports the continued operation of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) in thermal stations. Noise monitoring at ESB locations in accordance with technical standards is also a feature of the role. The Specialist also works within the department team to help develop efficiency targets for the generation portfolio and works with the stations to achieve these targets. Providing assistance during performance testing and assisting in the completion of efficiency tests and acceptance tests as required is also a function of this role.
Key Responsibilities

Take a leading role in delivering the emissions testing programme required in ESB thermal stations as per EPA AG8 guidance note at ESB licenced sites.

Achieve and maintain emissions testing qualifications (MCERTS or similar), and noise testing qualifications.

Lead on-site sampling and monitoring activities including for licensed air emissions and noise as appropriate.

Draft emissions test reports to comply with EPA and EN standard requirements.

Become an integral part of an expanding emissions testing function within ESB.

Develop and maintain expertise in latest developments, standards, and relevant guidance relating to air emission/performance testing of generating plant.

Provide support as required to assist in the ongoing reliable operation of the CEMS in ESB thermal stations.

Accessing ESB monitoring locations and setting up monitoring equipment.

Operation of monitoring and test equipment to measure emission levels.

Interaction and communication with station and head office contacts.

Providing guidance and quality checks for new and planned thermal units to ensure compliance with relevant EPA and EN standards prior to acceptance.

Adherence to company health and safety protocols.

Cleaning, preparation, minor repair, calibration, and maintenance of monitoring equipment.

Maintaining stocks of consumable items

Maintenance of records in accordance with company guidelines
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
Track record of achieving objectives and delivering value for the organisation

Full clean driving license

Experience of working from own initiative, taking ownership of work/projects and contributing to team objectives or projects

Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.

Flexibility, which is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally and internationally as needed.

Strong report writing capability.

Proficient computer skills.
Desirable

Knowledge of plant performance and emissions monitoring techniques.

MCERTS Foundation Level 1 or higher (not essential as full training will be provided)

Experience and/or qualifications related to noise measurement in industrial sites.
Location
-
The position is based in ESB Engineering & Major Projects Head Office, Dublin Airport, Ireland and will involve occasional travel both nationally and internationally. Emissions monitoring activities are mainly focussed on the greater Dublin area with some testing also required at thermal sites in Clare, Midlands, and Cork. New generation activities may expand the location of test activities in the future. Tailored working arrangements will be considered within the operational requirements of the role.
Note: Emissions testing will require a certain amount of working at height where sample locations exist on high level exhaust chimneys. The nature of emissions test campaigns is such that some occasional out-of-hours attendance at site will be a feature of this role.

Salary
€57,000 to €68,000 per annum
