Senior Professional Electrical Engineer
The Generation Enginering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients.
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer within the Projects & Design Team in Generation Engineering. The successful candidate will support ESB with the management of overhaul projects on existing generation assets for ESB Generation & Trading (GT).
ESB are currently recruiting for electrical engineers to lead the technical delivery of plant overhauls across the ESB Generation portfolio. ESB EMP are seeking engineers with a background in construction, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical generation technology such as:
- Generators
- AVRs
- MV/LV Switchgear
- Electrical Controls
- Electrical BOP
- Transformers
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Support Overhaul Programme: Assist the overhaul project manager in safely and efficiently delivering the overhaul programme.
- Contract Management: Manage the main electrical contracts and other assigned work scopes.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all project works comply with statutory safety, health, and environmental regulations and ESB Technical Standards & Guidelines. Where required, carry out authorized roles under the safety rules (Safe Systems of Work), training will be provided.
- Inspection & Test Plans: Implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for electrical aspects in collaboration with the relevant internal Competent Persons and/or Asset Management Specialists.
- Supervision & Quality Assurance: Supervise contractors' work daily, review ITP protocol sheets, and ensure work quality aligns with Project Quality Plan.
- Audits & Reporting: Conduct regular safety, environment, and quality audits; report progress against schedule; attend project meetings.
- Outage Planning & Execution: Plan and supervise engineering site works for outages and overhauls on main plant electrical equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven track record of significant experience in the power generation industry. A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience is required.
- The candidate will possess competence in design, construction, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical systems in power generation or related process industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage stakeholders, to work and share knowledge within a team structure and to make quality decisions and judgments
- The candidate will possess project engineering and project management skills, strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Strong communication, report writing skills and proficient computer skills (including MS Office)
- Well versed with health, safety, construction and environment standards and procedures, including risk assessment skills
- Full clean driving license (B car licence)
Qualifications
Essential
Primary Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent relevant work experience.
Desirable
Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same is preferred.
Location
ESB Engineering and Major Projects office, Dublin or EMP Eastgate Cork. Due to the nature of the work most time will be spent on site for the preparation and delivery of overhaul works.
Flexibility is important in this role as the role will include travel both nationally and internationally.

Salary
€57,000 - €68,000 per annum
