Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering delivery within ESB.

The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients.

We currently have an opportunity for a Rotating Plant and Mechanical Specialist to join our Generation Engineering team. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of Generation projects (Thermal, Renewables, System Services & Distributed Generation) in both new build and the existing plant portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities

· Provide specialist technical expertise in turbines, generators, and their auxiliaries.

· Develop technical specifications, scope of work, and inspection plans for station outages and projects.

· Offer on-site support and quality control during plant outages.

· Lead technical reviews, tender evaluations, and failure investigations.

· Support asset management, long-term planning, and operational advice for stations.

· Maintain technical standards, industry contacts, and expertise in new technologies.

· Support projects from inception to handover and assist in technical due diligence studies.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

· Minimum of 7 years' experience in the power generation industry.

· Extensive knowledge of turbines and rotating equipment in power plants.

· Skills in outage and contractor management.

· Proven ability to handle complex engineering problems and key responsibilities.

· Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment standards and procedures.

· Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and report writing capabilities.

· Flexibility for travel and proficiency in computer skills.

 

Qualifications

Essential

· Engineer level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience

Desirable

· Chartered Engineer status with a recognised engineering institution

 

Location

· Based in ESB Engineering and Major Projects Head Office, Dublin, Ireland or EMP Eastgate Cork..

· Tailored smart working arrangements are feasible and will be positively considered within the operational requirements of the role.

· Domestic and International travel are a key feature of this role.

Salary

€69,000 - €81,000 per annum
