Position Description


The Capability Assurance (CAM) Team in Transmission and Distribution Delivery (TDD) is responsible for the Safety Coordination, Quality Management processes, developing the Engineering Capability within the group and the Recruitment of staff both internal and external. The CAM team is a strategically focused team that works with each section in TDD, each of the Centre of Engineering Capability Assurance Managers, EMP HR Business Partners and a range of other internal and external stakeholders.



Key Responsibilities


The key responsibility of the role is to provide safety leadership and safety management on a diverse range of electricity transmission and distribution development projects. This includes:

  • Developing the Safety Improvement Plans for Transmission and Distribution Delivery.
  • Reporting on the Safety Statistics for Transmission and Distribution Delivery.
  • To liaise with EMP Safety Team and to communicate new safety requirements on to the group
  • Overall responsibility for safety as Project Supervisor Design Stage (PSDP). Preparation & review of design risk assessments and project H&S plans for design & construction teams.
  • Point of contact for staff on any safety related issues and training to include but not limited to the role of PSDP. 
  • Developing the Safety Training requirements for Transmission and Distribution Delivery Staff
  • A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivering results within a tight time frame whilst ensuring the safety and quality of the project is not impacted
  • Contributing to the training and development of new entrants within the group
  • The ability to manage and coordinate inputs from a range of engineering disciplines and key stakeholders
  • A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



The successful candidate will ideally have several of the qualities listed below:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Engineering or Safety Management role
  • Have undertaken the responsibilities and executed the role of PSDP or CDMC.
  • Site working experience in industrial setting.
  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-starter with ability to drive a high level of performance
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Full drivers’ licence



  • Experience in the transmission and distribution industry.






  • Diploma or similar qualification in Occupational Health and Safety



  • Either level 8 in Engineering or similar discipline, or similar relevant experience is essential.





This role is based in ESB E&MP Dublin or Cork offices.


 ESB is committed to offering flexibility in ways of working and we call that Smart Working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible and remote ways of working.


The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working.  Site visits is also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.



Reporting to

Capability Assurance Manager, Transmission and Distribution Delivery, Engineering and Major Projects





€50,000 to €60,000 per annum
