Claims Investigator, ESB Networks Customer & Projects Delivery
Position Description
The Claims Investigator will work with local managers and supervisors to deal with property damage and other delegated claims. They will work closely with ESB Networks Legal and external experts on third party legal proceedings against ESB. Their work will require them to visit sites as part of their investigations, attend court and give evidence, attend meetings with legal counsel, and maintain strong local and regional relationships. Their understanding of the physical electrical network and supporting IT systems will help them to develop accurate investigation reports and recommendations on liabilities for consideration by ESB Networks Legal. They will work closely with and support their colleagues to ensure a strong team ethic and an ethos of shared learning.
Given the flexible nature of the workload, other activities may be assigned from time to time. This will be in line with business priorities and resources.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Investigation of third party personal-injury claims against ESB and timely preparation of factual investigation reports.
- Investigation of property damage claims linked to ESBN works or network events.
- Working collaboratively with and providing clear instructions to the litigation team in ESN Networks Legal.
- Responding to requests for information and discovery orders from ESB Networks Legal to meet legal deadlines.
- Use of SAP work-management systems, G/Designer, OMS and other ESB IT systems, to identify and extract all relevant information on historical ESBN interactions with incident sites and/or network events.
- Providing technical support to and facilitating the work of external professionals retained by Networks Legal to undertake independent investigations and prepare expert reports e.g. Loss/Damage Assessors, Consultant Engineers, Forensic/Fire Investigators.
- Liaising with ESB Legal Services (Property) team regarding legal title/ownership of incident sites.
- Fully embracing a mutually supportive culture with flexibility in balancing workloads and managing peaks.
- Sharing learning from investigations to local and national teams to help avert repeat incidents.
- Building/maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
- As travel is a feature of this role, a full clean driver’s licence is required.
- Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate or Equivalent Work Experience.
- Experience of carrying out technical investigations.
- Knowledge of MV/LV Design and Construction standards, including New Connection policies.
- Knowledge of network assets, MV/LV substations, Overhead Lines, UG Cables, ESB Metering etc.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
- Strong communication skills, including clear and accurate report writing.
- Good working knowledge of national Health and Safety regulations and ESBN’s safe system of work.
Location(s)
There are opportunities in various locations within Republic of Ireland. Role holders may be required to work outside their nominal geographic areas from time to time to balance workloads and/or deal with workload peaks in other regions.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€48,000 - €56,000 per annum.
