NW - Claims Investigator, ESB Networks Customer & Projects Delivery
Position Description
The Claims Investigators will work with local managers and supervisors to ensure an orderly handover of ongoing legal claims. They will then investigate and progress all claims received by ESB Networks for property damage or personal injuries. They will work closely with ESB Networks Legal and external experts on third party legal proceedings against ESB. Their work will require them to visit sites as part of their investigations, to attend court, to provide instructions to ESB Networks’ legal teams and to give evidence on behalf of ESB at the hearing of these claims. Their understanding of the physical electrical network and supporting IT systems will help them to develop accurate investigation reports and recommendations on liabilities which will underpin ESB’s defence of these claims. They will also work with ESB Networks Legal to provide feedback and lessons learned from claims to the relevant regional teams.
Given the flexible nature of the workload, other activities may be assigned from time to time. This will be in line with business priorities and resources.
Responsibilities:
- Lead on the investigation of third party personal injury and property damage claims against ESB and prepare investigation reports to tight timelines.
- Provide clear instructions to the litigation team in ESB Networks Legal and to external barristers and independent engineers.
- Be ESB’s leading witness of fact on cases that come to hearing in the District, Circuit and High Court as appropriate.
- Respond to requests for information and discovery Orders from ESB Networks Legal to meet court appointed deadlines.
- Be responsible for liaising with key internal stakeholders such as middle management and supervisors to obtain information for investigations. Report on those investigations to Regional Managers at file review meetings twice a year.
- Use of SAP work-management systems, G/Designer, OMS and other ESB IT systems, to identify and extract all relevant information on historical ESBN interactions with incident sites and/or network events.
- Provide feed back to Regional Managers on lessons learned from the subject matter of legal claims. Provide input to the Lessons Learned section of ESB Networks Legal’s Quarterly Report as appropriate.
- Provide technical support to and facilitate the work of external professionals retained by ESB Networks Legal in their preparation of expert reports for Court.
- Liaise with ESB Legal Services (Property) team regarding legal title/ownership of incident sites.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 3rd-Level Qualification or equivalent work experience.
- As travel is a feature of this role, a full clean driver’s licence is required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years experience working with ESB’s network and assets.
- Knowledge of MV/LV Design and Construction standards including New Connection policies.
- Knowledge of network assets, MV/LV substations, overhead lines, underground cables and metering.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Excellent inter-personal skills.
- Strong communication skills, including clear and accurate report writing.
Desirable
- Good working knowledge of national Health and Safety regulations and ESBN’s safe system of work.
- Experience with legal cases and investigations.
Location(s)
- Various / Flexible across within Region / Geographic area allocated.
- Role holders may be required to work outside their nominal geographic areas from time to time, to balance workloads and/or deal with workload peaks in other regions.

National Claims Manager, South East Region, ESB Networks.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum.
