Forecasting Analyst


The Role 

Electric Ireland is the retail arm of ESB, supplying electricity, gas and energy services to customers across the island of Ireland and GB. With over 1.3 million customers and an electricity all-island market share of 33%, Electric Ireland serves all market segments, from domestic households to large industrial and commercial businesses, in both ROI and NI.  Electric Ireland’s trading team develops and executes the trading strategies on behalf of Electric Ireland’s customer base.


Reporting to the Forecasting Team Lead, the position of Forecasting Analyst is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work in a commercially focussed team in Pricing and Trading.  The Forecasting team is responsible for all demand forecasting requirements across all market segments in both jurisdictions. The successful candidate will deliver several forecast outputs to support pricing and trading decisions.


As part of a skilled and professional team, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of correct and accurate information on time to multiple stakeholders while supporting the overall Pricing and Trading unit with Purchase Order (PO) administration. The role would suit an analytically minded person who wishes to gain experience in a commercial area of Customer Solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily fuel tracker and wholesale energy market prices reports for circulation to all relevant stakeholders
  • Provide accurate and timely monthly forecasted energy cost calculations to support energy trading and finance decisions
  • Deliver short term gas and electricity forecasts to support energy trading decisions
  • PO shopper on behalf of Pricing and Trading
  • Liaise with Risk on all reporting requirements for the Forecasting & Reporting team
  • Provide support on processes and systems for the management of renewable certification
  • Maintain and develop business process documents for all relevant tasks
  • Ad hoc tasks as required


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • 2-3  years’ relevant  work experience
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and use MS Excel spreadsheets (or similar tools) for analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Desire to learn and develop new skills
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure



  • Knowledge of the retail and/or wholesale energy markets
  • Knowledge of SAP FMIS
  • Knowledge of DFS forecasting system or similar and / or Aligne trading system

  • A relevant 3rd level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential

€36,000- €42,000 per annum.
