Trading Analyst
The Role
Electric Ireland is the retail arm of ESB, supplying electricity, gas and energy services to customers across the island of Ireland and GB. With over 1.3 million customers and an electricity all-island market share of 33%, Electric Ireland serves all market segments, from domestic households to large industrial and commercial businesses, in both ROI and NI. Electric Ireland’s trading team develops and executes the trading strategies on behalf of Electric Ireland’s customer base.
The Trading area (Front-Office) within Electric Ireland consists of a Forwards and Prompt Trading team. The Forward’s team is responsible for the sourcing of energy contracts and the transaction of related financial instruments in the management of wholesale energy costs. The Prompt trading team executes the daily bidding of Electric Ireland’s customer demand in the I-SEM.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work in a dynamic and customer focussed environment. The role would suit analytically minded people who wish to gain experience in a commercial area for Ireland’s largest electricity supplier. Initially the position will be within the prompt area of Front-Office however rotation between the trading teams may be a feature of this role.
This role will report to the Prompt Trading Team Lead, Front-Office, Pricing and Trading, Electric Ireland, Swift Square, Santry.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementation of Power and Gas trading strategies and associated reporting.
- Analysing market data to support trading decisions and strategy development.
- Execution of I-SEM daily trading activities.
- Production of regular financial and management reporting on historic performance.
- Support continuous business process and system improvements for the area.
- Address queries of the key front-office stakeholders.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-4 years experience in a simialr role
- Either 3rd level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
- Good analytical and numerical skills with ability to work independently.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel and Power BI.
- Attention to detail with ability to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to work as part of a team and provide support to other team members.
- A pro-active, enthusiastic and commercially focussed individual.
Desirable
- Knowledge of wholesale or retail electricity markets or trading environment would be an advantage

Salary
€45,000 to €55,000 per annum
