Position Description

 

ESB Renewables O&M is a division within Generation & Trading (G&T) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s 29 onshore wind farms (1,052 MW) across ROI, NI, England and Wales.

 

As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040  Strategy it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also to incorporate 500 MW of renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.

 

With significant expansion plans in the renewable generation sector, this position offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to join an expanding business area taking on a challenging and autonomous role.

 

ESB Renewables O&M are seeking application for the role of Site Operations Manager. The sites assigned to the role will be based on business needs. A high degree of flexibility is required in the role. This is a broad ranging dynamic key role in the Renewable O&M Management team with responsibility for developing and leading the operation and maintenance of Windfarm sites.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Procurement of services and materials. Ensure that services contracts are operated fairly and that discussions to renew are initiated to ensure timely renewal.
  • Develop and implement operating practices and procedures for assigned Wind farms
  • Collaborate with the Renewable Operations Mobilisation team to realise effective transfer from mobilisation to enduring operation phase.
  • Maintain contact with EirGrid and ESBN in relation to the compliant operation of windfarms and the scheduling of outages.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Wind Renewables team to introduce new assets to the operational portfolio. Promote & foster teamwork and empower and develop teams to deliver optimum capability.
  • Manage several renewable site managers (RSM), covering multiple sites.
  • Ensure that RSMs attain requisite safety accreditations.
  • Promote safety initiatives, set safety targets and deliver safety goals. Review, update, introduce safety policies and procedures as needed. Ensure that lessons learned are communicated to staff, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Incorporate new Wind farms into the existing multi-site induction system
  • Monitor and optimise the commercial and technical performance of wind farms and initiate programme(s) to address under performance.
  • Manage O&M costs
  • Agree, set and achieve budgets for windfarm operations and for projects. Liaise with other team members to produce and populate the LTAP, GRR and CAR.
  • Cost Renewables Operations O&M operator contracts for JV bids.
  • Chair monthly meetings with JV partners on the operation of the specific wind farm. Present operational and safety updates at quarterly JV board meetings.
  • Chair operations call with all members of ESB Wind Operation team.
  • Recruitment of personnel as required
  • Promote & foster teamwork and empower and develop teams to deliver optimum capability.
  • Mandate new RSM on sites for HV safety as well as existing RSM on new sites. Becoming efficient in ESB SSOW will be a requirement of this role.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

The successful candidate will be a team player, flexible and self-starter with good problem solving skills. They should be able to demonstrate the ability to lead as required, communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation. They will be assertive and committed to maintaining safety culture and standards.

 

Essential

 

  • 7 years’ experience in a generation station, wind operations or similar process industry.
  • 3rd level qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent work experience is essential 
  • Experience in Health & Safety management including OHSAS 18001 and / or Health and Safety Qualification.
  • Good IT Skills
  • Full Irish Driving License. 

 

Desirable

 

  • Experience in power generation operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures.
  • Experience in project management and/or good planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a results focused team
  • Strong commercial focus on contract delivery and plant availability

 

Location

 

The successful candidates base is to be confirmed. There will also be a requirement to travel regularly to windfarm sites in ROI, NI and GB.

 Salary

(€69,542 - €81,814)
