Electrical Instrumentation Supervisor, Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations
Position description
A vacancy exists for the position of EI Supervisor, Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.
This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s only pumped storage hydro power station located at Turlough Hill, and in our 3 traditional hydro power stations on the River Liffey.
We have been generating electricity on the Liffey since 1944, and at Turlough Hill since 1974. Our stations have a combined generating capacity of 330MW. The EI Supervisor play a pivotal role within the team to ensuring the stations commercial and technical performance is maintained.
Turlough Hill and Liffey stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphouca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. This comprises 9 power turbines and all the associated dams, gates and civil structures associated with the river Liffey hydroelectric scheme and Turlough Hill.
The EI Supervisor will be required to work across all functional areas within the station including technical services, maintenance, operations, civil, supervision, and contractor management. The successful candidate will work in the electrical maintenance team. The EI Supervisor will ensure that all maintenance works are carried out in line with ESB and station policies. They will be required to work autonomously, be flexible, be a self-starter, and provide support to other teams and projects as required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required.
The Supervisor will work in a dynamic environment and to meet the business needs. The successful candidate will be required on occasions to have flexible working hours including weekend and night working and be available for call-outs.
Key Responsibilities
Duties of the role includes but may not be limited to:
- Manage and supervise maintenance teams and contractors.
- Promote & foster teamwork by empowering and developing maintenance teams to deliver optimum capability,
- Prioritise, plan, schedule and coordinate the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities to ensure business continuity through the use of the computerised maintenance management system,
- Delivery of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, operations, HCC, technical, and support functions,
- Ensure safety of staff and contractors through compliance with safety systems, including work permitting, setting to work and risk assessments/ method statements through our safe systems of work,
- Carry out work in a hands-on capacity,
- Develop and work to budgets including execution of procurement processes, management of spares, and management of inventory.
- Management of other plant specific projects as required whilst maintaining compliance to ESB standards and guidelines.
- Carry out the role of Permit Holder and Work Controller under the safety rules and execute all duties required under the role for all functional areas of the station.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 4 years’ experience and technical knowledge of power station maintenance or maintenance practices in similar heavy process industry.
- FAS / SOLAS / Senior Trade qualification in an Electrical discipline or equivalent relevant discipline.
- Full B driving licence.
- Strong safety focus and the setting people to work safely and ability and desire to lead safety culture.
- Team building and leadership qualities with a proven track record in supervising personnel.
- Experience in the operation of Work Management Systems and Contractor Management and excellent knowledge of PC’s.
- Working knowledge of computerised control systems, troubleshooting and calibration of instrumentation and controls, of relay protection and of high voltage testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent planning skills.
Desirable
- Experience in project management
- Knowledge of Safe Systems of work, Permitting and Isolating processes.
Location
This position is based in Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.
The successful candidate will be required to evidence their right to work in the <<< Republic of Ireland / UK >>> prior to commencement of employment.
Reporting To
Initially reporting to the Plant Manager, Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.

Salary
€59,795 - €70,348 per annum
