Engineering Team Member, Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations
Position Description
This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s only pumped storage hydro power station located at Turlough Hill, and in our 3 traditional hydro power stations on the River Liffey.
We have been generating electricity on the Liffey since 1944, and at Turlough Hill since 1974. Our stations have a combined generating capacity of 330MW. The stations asset management team play a pivotal role in ensuring the stations commercial / technical performance is optimised.
Liffey and Turlough Hill stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. This comprises 9 power turbines and all the associated dams, gates and civil structures associated with the river Liffey hydroelectric scheme and Turlough Hill.
The team member will be required to work across all functional areas including maintenance, operations, technical services, facilities, civil and dam safety, supervision, and contractor management. The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. They will provide support to other teams and projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required. The successful candidate will give and receive training as defined by plant management to attain and maintain competencies.
The Engineering Team Member will initially provide support to the Technical Services and Operations Teams. They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage, develop and motivate team members. The successful candidate will also be able to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the Organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include but may not be limited to the following:
- Planning, co-ordination and implementation of routine / once-off projects and outages
- Diagnosing Operations and Maintenance problems
- Provide support to the Technical Services and Operations Teams
- Delivery of commercial / technically sound solutions
- Ensuring compliance with Safety, Environmental, Technical and Quality standards and Guidelines
- Work with the Operations & Maintenance function and internal or external specialists to ensure the delivery of work
- Managing Contractors
- Planning, co-ordination and implementation of the Management of Change process and documentation
- Delivering and supporting of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, operations, civil, technical and support functions.
- Rotation into the Hydro Control Centre (HCC) as a Day Shift Manager may be a feature of this role
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 3 years' relevant experience.
- An engineering degree or suitable equivalent qualification, or relevant work experience in managing projects and/or overhauls required.
- Experience in managing projects and/or overhauls.
- A high degree of commercial awareness.
- Good IT skills.
Desirable
- Experience in plant operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures.
- Developed skills in report and procedure writing.
- Experience in the operation of Work Management Systems.
- Experience in project management and/or good planning skills
Location
This position is based in Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.
Reporting to
The successful candidate will initially report to the Station Asset Manager.

Salary
€49,830 - €58,622
