Position Description

 

Generation Projects within E&MP has been established to develop all generation projects, both renewable and thermal projects, as well as managing overhauls and construction projects. Renewable projects include  wind, Offshore wind, Solar PV and Battery Storage. Our projects range from major utility scale offshore wind farms over 1000MW to small distributed solar projects or battery projects.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The candidate will lead a team of Project Managers working on ESB’s portfolio of  wind farm projects developing projects from concept through to construction. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

• Lead a UK based team of project and contract managers and maintain responsibility for their performance.

• Overall responsibility for progressing UK onshore wind development opportunities from pre-planning through to commencement of construction.

• Develop and continuously improve the expertise and skills within the UK onshore team.

• Develop an investment timeline to ensure key deliverables are progressed based on requirements, risks and opportunities.

• Work with Asset Development to develop the contracting strategy to ensure performance/risk/scope are aligned with project business case.

• Support Asset Development on getting solid route to market solutions in place for projects such as PPA, CFD Auction process, etc.

• Lead technical feasibility and assessment of concept and acquisition opportunities.

• Lead the work required to secure planning permissions and grid connections.

• Lead site investigation activities to meet project needs as project progresses.

• Support Asset Development in progressing landowner agreements, site acquisitions and land access permits.

• Implement the contracting strategy, specification preparation, tender evaluation, negotiations with Asset Development and Procurement to maximise business case opportunities.

• Maintain an accurate resource requirement plan to deliver on commitments and work collaboratively with Generation Projects and CoE to obtain the necessary resources and input to the company Strategic Resource Plan.

• Work in partnership with Asset Development to progress and assess potential  wind acquisition opportunities.

• Lead the implementation of project management methodology for projects, providing consistent delivery standards through identification and implementation of clear roles, decision rights, and ensuring the right mindsets to deliver project success.

• Lead the implementation of CDM, PSDP or Principal Designer processes across the projects.

• Managing stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally


 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

  • A minimum of ten year’s relevant experience 
  • Excellent leadership skills coupled with a track record in delivering large complex projects, with relevant experience in managing engineering and project teams.
  • A proven track record of delivering significant technical (engineering or other) input to large onshore wind projects
  • Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies with a team, including with ESB JV partners.
  • A thorough understanding of  wind projects and industry.
  • A strong working knowledge of and experience of involvement in key  wind industry groups and the current status of their interests
  • A demonstrable record in the development of health and safety capabilities and their application to onshore wind projects
  • Experience of working independently from own initiative, taking ownership of work / projects and motivating team members to deliver team objectives or projects.   
  • Experience of negotiations and commercial ability.   

 

Desirable

 

  • A strong current participation in industry working groups.
  • Experience with ESB’s Project Management Methodology or alternate project management processes.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Level 8 qualification in Engineering

 

Desirable

 

  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrate evidence of progression towards same.
  • Any higher level of qualification supporting the responsibilities of this role.

 

 

Location

 

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the United Kingdom, with attendance at base in EMP, Dublin Airport for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working.

 

The role will likely involve travel. Travel internationally will also be a feature of this role.

Salary

 

£67,000 - £83,500
