The Smart Energy Services business has been formed to develop and deliver an integrated energy management solution for large energy users in the UK and Republic of Ireland. We are working with prestigious clients in the retail, hospitality, education and medical sectors

ESB Smart Energy Services operates two high profile Energy Centres providing heat to industrial scale greenhouses in Norwich and Bury St Edmonds. The energy centres comprise CHP, heat pumps and gas fired boilers and generate approximately 70MWth across the two sites.

We require x2 Operations Technicians to cover the sites. Attendance on site will be on a 9-5 basis, Monday to Friday, with some requirement for out of hours work should the need arise. The role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant and for ensuring that heat is delivered to the commercial greenhouses in accordance with our contractual obligations. You will be responsible for operating the plant and carrying out first line maintenance on the plant. You will also be required to safely isolate the plant under a LOTO procedure when required for maintenance activities. This role will report to to Head of Managed Services, Smart Energy Services

Location Daily travel to Norwich and Bury St Edmonds,

On Call will be a feature of this role. 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Start up, shut-down and operation of the Energy Centre and HEB in accordance with relevant legislation, site procedures and best practice standards
  • Monitor plant performance and alarms to ensure safe and efficient delivery of production targets and protection of plant integrity
  • Monitoring equipment, diagnosing equipment problems and reporting abnormal conditions for corrective action using the work management system
  • Carry out first line maintenance and preventative maintenance routines to maintain plant availability and reliability 
  • Carry out project work and activities as directed
  • Compliance with safety and environmental obligations
  • Maintaining an operations record (log) and submit operations reports
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for plant operations, testing and related activities


Essential Experience and Qualifications 

  •  IT skills including Outlook
  • Experience of Power Stations operations or similar heavy process engineering 
  • Experience of heat pump, CHP, or boiler operation or similar heavy process engineering 
  • Electrical knowledge will be an advantage
  •  Effective Communication with internal and external stakeholders.



A recognised craft qualification in an engineering discipline or 3 years recent experience and competence in process plant operations.


Closing Date

£28,000 - £35,000 per annum.
