Position Description

 

The primary function of this Project Manager role is to manage the day-to-day project activities in the deployment of rapid and high-powered chargers (HPC) points on highway and Hubs sites through local authority contracts and other commercial contracts as they are secured by the Business Development team.

 

Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Delivery Manager, the local engineering and project teams are responsible for the delivery of EV charging schemes in line with project timelines and budgets, liaising with stakeholders including clients, DNOs/IDNOs and subcontractors, managing project safety and coordinating administrative project processes including public consultation and works permitting.

 

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for daily operations of EV rapid charging deployment projects, delivering of EV Hub sites right through to commercial operation ensuring that tasks are appropriately assigned, tracked, and completed in line with project requirements while also being the primary point of communication with the Council regarding the project. The role will be supported by project management, contract management and engineering resources available to the project team.

 

Electrification of transport is a key pillar of ESB’s Brighter Future Strategy – reducing the carbon impact from transport and improving air-quality while growing our business. ESB owns and operates an extensive public EV Charging Network in Great Britain and Ireland consisting of over 2,000 fast, rapid and high-power EV charging points. ESB’s strategy, consistent with our role as a pioneer in Electromobility and our ambition to capture value from the global trend in electrification of transport is to continue to expand our EV charging infrastructure network.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution of EV charging infrastructure projects.
  • Supervise enabling works, pre-commissioning, and ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct site assessments, develop detailed designs, and perform risk evaluations.
  • Liaise with DNOs and grid providers to secure and manage grid connections.
  • Coordinate with contractors, local authorities, landowners, consultants, and internal teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Track project KPIs, costs, and schedules; report progress to the Programme Manager.
  • Support procurement processes and maintain SHQE documentation, audits, and close-out procedures.

 

 

Experience & Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • 7 - 10 years' experience in design and construction is essential.
  • Level 8 Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of project management processes and frameworks (e.g. PMBOK, Prince2)
  • Strong customer relations focus allied to robust understanding and awareness of commercial implications of project timelines, costing and works scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of EV charging technologies and safety regulations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent customer relationship management, effective communication skills and ability to implement suitable business processes.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and other Customer Solutions businesses such as Smart Energy Services, to deliver overall company objectives.
  • A proven ability to develop and manage the implementation of technical projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Project Management & Delivery experience including contractor management.
  • Full clean driving licence

 

 

Location

 

This position will be based in ESB Office in the United Kingdon with travel to various sites throughout the UK on a regular basis

Salary

 

£61,000 - £76,000 per annum, depending on experience.
